In the previous article, we gave a breakdown of the popular welding accessories produced by ITW Welding. In this article, we will touch on some of the popular welding filler metals that are manufactured by the ITW Welding factories.

Gas-shielded FCAW Welding Wires

In Southeast Asia, the Hobart® range of gas-shielded FCAW (FCAW-G) welding wires is well known amongst metal fabricators, especially those who operate in offshore shipbuilding. Our FCAW-G welding wires are formulated to offer excellent weldability and consistent mechanical properties for the most stringent requirements, such as low temperature impact toughness and CTOD. Typical product trade names include MEGAFIL®, FabCO® and Hobart®.

Self-shielded FCAW Welding Wires

Unlike FCAW-G welding wires, self-shielded FCAW (FCAW-S) welding wires do not require external shielding gas to protect the molten weld puddle. As such, the FCAW-S welding wires are ideal for outdoor welding applications that are found in construction sites, pipelines, and offshore structural fabrication. Upon specific request from metal fabricators, we may be able to offer diffusible hydrogen H5 tested controlled lots. The trade name for FCAW-S welding wires is Fabshield®.

Metal-Cored Welding Wires

As the name suggests, metal-cored welding wires are tubular wires that are filled with metallic powders and different alloying elements. Metal-cored welding wires offer higher deposition rates and faster travel speeds as compared to solid welding wires. When used in the right applications, metal-cored welding wires can help metal fabricators increase throughput and reduce operating costs. Our filler metal factories produce metal-cored welding wires under two trade names, FabCOR® and MEGAFIL®.

Stick Welding Electrodes

The Pipemaster® cellulosic stick electrodes are designed to provide excellent arc stability and penetration to assist pipeline welders to get the job done in challenging environments. Carbon steel stick electrodes, such as E7016 and E7018 are typically manufactured under the trade name Hobart®. On the other hand, low alloy stick electrodes, such as E8018-C3 and E10018-D2 fall under the trade name Hoballoy®. Our filler metal factories also produce stick electrodes under the Elga® and Tien Tai brand.

Submerged Arc Welding Wire and Flux

Submerged arc welding wires fall into two categories, solid wire, and metal-cored wire. Typical solid wires, such as EH12K and EM12K fall under the Hobart® trade name. Metal-cored wires offer improved deposition rates compared to solid wires, thereby allowing faster travel speeds and higher throughput. Our filler metal factories produce metal-cored wires under the SubCOR™ trade name. For submerged arc welding fluxes, there are generally two types, active and neutral. Active fluxes actively influence the chemistry of the weld deposit through the addition of elements such as silicon and manganese, while neutral fluxes do not significantly influence the chemistry of the weld deposit. A very popular active flux that our factories produce is Hobart® HA-495. There is a wider variety of neutral fluxes, and the most popular include Hobart® HN-521 and Hobart® HN-590.
